OpenScholar is a web platform developed by Harvard University for creating academic websites. However, as of 2025, it will no longer be supported, and all sites on OpenScholar must be transitioned to the new HarvardSites Drupal platform by November 2025. HarvardSites offers enhanced security, accessibility, modern design templates, and ongoing support from Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT). The transition process will be gradual, starting in March 2024 and continuing until August 2025, during which time existing OpenScholar sites will remain active.
HarvardSites provides two main platform options: HarvardSites Drupal for academic departments, schools, centers, and profiles, and HarvardSites WordPress for event microsites and blogs. Both platforms meet university standards for security and accessibility and offer optimized templates for Harvard's needs. Users are encouraged to prepare for migration by reviewing instructions, removing outdated content, verifying site ownership, and participating in training sessions provided by HUIT.
