Picasa Overview

Picasa was an image management and editing software developed by Lifescape and later acquired by Google in 2004. It allowed users to efficiently organize photos with features like automatic tagging, geotagging, and the ability to share images through Picasa Web Albums. The program was compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux, but in 2016, Google discontinued its development, focusing on its cloud service, Google Photos. Despite the end of official support, Picasa remains popular among some users for its simplicity and effectiveness.

However, Picasa no longer supports modern image formats such as WebP or HEIC, and may not function properly on newer operating systems. As it is no longer officially supported, downloading it from unofficial sources can be risky due to potential security issues. Google now recommends Google Photos as an alternative, offering expanded cloud storage and photo organization features. Other alternatives like Adobe Lightroom, Mylio, and Ribbet also provide additional photo editing and organizational tools.
