HeatShield Overview

HeatShield is a network firewall management service for Linux servers. A firewall configured by HeatShield prevents unauthorized access to services running on your servers, such as SSH and MySQL. Using HeatShield, you can easily restrict access to these services so that only IP addresses you trust are allowed to communicate with your servers.

Additionally, HeatShield dynamically updates your servers' firewalls to block IP addresses that have attempted brute force SSH login attacks on any of your servers.

HeatShield configures an iptables firewall on your server and requires no additional hardware or specialized network infrastructure. When you connect your server to HeatShield, a firewall management agent is installed on your server. The agent communicates with HeatShield, keeps your server's firewall configured as you've specified, and reports SSH brute force login attempts.

HeatShield works with cloud servers and dedicated servers at any provider, including Google Compute Engine, Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, Rackspace, DigitalOcean, Linode, SoftLayer, and OpenStack-based providers.
